West Welwyn Solar Farm

West Welwyn Solar

Welcome to the West Welwyn Solar Farm website brought to you by WGC Solar Limited. The proposals comprise a solar farm covering approximately 31 hectares with the expected generating capacity of the project being up to 32MW on land between Ayot St Lawrence and Ayot St Peter, Welwyn Hatfield.

Potential to deliver high levels of solar powered electricity

The land has been carefully chosen for its potential to deliver high levels of solar-powered electricity. It is proposed that the electricity generated from the site will be utilised by a local off-taker via a private wire connection. This will enable the local business to reduce their carbon footprint by utilising electricity generated via a sustainable renewable energy resource.

Current Stage

The consultation has now closed. We have analysed the feedback received and have prepared the consultation report, which will detail the consultation undertaken and how feedback was taken into account for the project.

The report will accompany the planning application, which has been prepared and is due to be submitted to Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council in early spring 2024.

We invite engagement with the local community:

We held two Public Information Day events in November 2021 where we shared our early proposals.

We hosted a public consultation drop in event on the 1st of December 2022 and 22nd February 2023, where the community had the chance to provide their feedback.

Feedback received has helped to modify the plans and proposals before we submit our application.

Development Timeline

Notable changes to our proposals

Feedback received during the public information days last year and throughout the course of this year has helped to inform the design of the site, with notable changes including:

The proposed site has been further reduced in size so that the adjacent bridleway no longer crosses through part of the site.

This reduction also helps to further minimise the visual impact of the site. The reduction in site size has released another hectare of land that will be used to host an ecology project, enhancing biodiversity and the experience of using the adjacent bridleway.
